LISA KRENTEL

Lisa grew up in a family of artists and spent her young life overseas, so from the beginning she was exposed to sensory and artistic experiences and encouraged to create things.  Lisa earned a BFA in painting and fine art photography from Moore College of Art and for years a camera was always at her side.  Work in the graphic arts production and printing industries took her to photographic assignments in New Zealand, Bora Bora, and the Dodger stadium dugout.

As a mixed media artist Lisa experiments with weaving her tools and materials in new ways to create visuals that delight and surprise.  She has had a love affair with light and color as long as she can remember, and when she photographed her underwater scuba adventures she knew those images would be used for paintings for only as paintings could she convey the beautiful fluid light of water.

There are times when the news inspires her, as do huge changes in her life, and the need to process these events visually gives rise to very personal and emotionally charged artwork that become her landscape while working through the feelings they bring.  A respect and nostalgia for the past has also been a recurring theme in her work, taking the form of hand tinted photographs to embroidered fabric collages to drawings of dear belongings of the past.
