BILL PAVAN

“My work specializes in accentuating the natural beauty of wood, metal and other renewable resources.”

Bill plies his trade on the waters off the Choptank River on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. His work specializes in accentuating the natural beauty of wood, metal and other renewable resources while providing useful and artistic pieces.

Growing up around dairy farms and apple orchards in New York State, I was always fascinated by the natural beauty in the world.  What caused the remarkable black and white spotting patterns seen in the dairy cows? Why do the grains of different tree species look so different even though they grow next to each other?”

Bill has been a geneticist at the NIH for over 25 years.  In addition to studying inherited diseases in man, his research focused on how one’s DNA controls the colors and patterns seen in animals.  His work ranged from black and white patterns, as seen in dairy cows, to red hair and freckling and even why hair turns grey.

His other interests include kayak fishing and gardening.
