PAM WATROBA
Pam is a Maryland native, having grown up in Baltimore and then relocated to the Eastern Shore to raise her family in 1990. She has worked in education and healthcare, and is now able to devote her time to her real passion – art. She is a member of several local art councils where she has exhibited in member shows and sold most of her work. Mosaics/mixed media is her medium of choice due to its textural component. Metal, stone, glass, shells, jewels, wire...the list is never-ending.
"Art to me is the ability to produce something of beauty, that will put a smile on someone's face every time they see it or start a conversation or make you think of a special time in your life. Creating a mosaic is about the journey which leads you to a destination...a beautiful piece of art treasured by its owner”.
Pam is a self-taught artist who has transitioned from painting to mosaics/mixed media and enjoys working with different substrates and tesserae to produce unique 2d and 3d art forms.
“Tesserae comes in so many forms and colors and using found objects allows another story to develop. I hate to see anything go to waste, so I love to use repurposed items and make them into things of beauty. I also love to combine the beauty of glass with the hardness of metal. I am inspired by nature and the patterns found in nature. Maryland has such a diverse ecosystem that expands from the ocean to the mountains. There is an abundance of wildlife and flora and fauna from which to get inspiration. I have recently begun to expand into more contemporary pieces of art which I find very fulfilling as one is able to let the tesserae guide the development of the piece instead of making the tesserae fit into a strict predetermined space. Sometimes I start with a thought of what I am trying to create and end up with something entirely different.”
